The flagship competitive format — play with the newest cards
Standard uses only cards from the most recent Magic sets, keeping the format fresh and accessible. It rotates roughly every three years, which means the metagame constantly evolves. Standard is Wizards' flagship competitive format and is featured at most major tournaments.
Only cards from the current Standard-legal sets are allowed
60-card minimum deck with up to 4 copies of any card (except basic lands)
15-card sideboard for best-of-three matches
Sets rotate out roughly every 3 years to keep the format fresh
Best-of-one and best-of-three are both common at local events
Accessible entry point — fewer cards to learn compared to older formats
